Preparation and characterization of a hydrophobic derivative of chitosan and its applications as micellar carriers

Purpose: To prepare a hydrophobic derivative of chitosan, and use it as a micellar carrier for paclitaxel; Methods: The modified chitosan was synthesized by coupling reaction between a-tocopherol succinate and chitosan. The formation was confirmed by 1H-NMR analysis. Using the probe-type ultrasonic method, PTX-loaded micelles were prepared; Results: In vitro cytotoxicity study revealed the effectiveness of this delivery system; Conclusion: The modified chitosan was a potential micellar carrier for paclitaxel.
