Effects of different energy substrates and nickel /cadmium ions on the growth of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans
In the present work, the effects of different energy substrates and nickel /cadmium ions on the growth of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans were investigated. The results show that ferrous sulfate was the optimum energy substrate for A. ferrooxidans growth among the selected substrate. When cultured with ferrous sulfate and elemental sulfur simultaneously, the ferrous ions were firstly oxidized by A. ferrooxidans, and then the elemental sulfur was utilized as the concentration of ferrous ions decreased. After A. ferrooxidans adapted the culture containing nickel and cadmium ions, it presented good tolerance to both ions, and the maximum concentration of which was up to 0. 07 mol/L and 0. 015 mol/L, respectively.
