A comprehensive study on separation of copper from complex sulphide ore bioleaching solution

A comprehensive study on separation of copper from sulfate solution has been investigated using Acorga M5774 in distilled kerosene. The pregnant leach solution was produced through bioleaching of the complex sulphide ore that contained copper, nickel, cobalt, iron, magnesium and other minor impurities. Bench scale studies on solvent extraction have been carried out in order to determine the main effects and interactions of the solvent extraction factors, which were the initial solution pH, organic to aqueous ratio, extraction time and stirring speed. The experimental results showed that the copper extraction was 99% with high selectivity against the impurities especially iron under the conditions of pH 2, O/A = 0. 3 , 5 min, 200 rpm. The stripping efficiency of the copper-loaded Acorga M5774 organic phase with sulphuric acid was over 98% under the conditions of sulphuric acid concentration 200 g/L, O/A = 1,4 min, 200 rpm. The degradation of the extractant Acorga M5774 was also examined by loop testing.
