The analysis of biochemical stirred-tank sulfidic concentrate leaching technologies

An analysis is given in this work of biochemical stirred-tank leaching technologies for sulfidic concentrates developed in Russia, in comparison with known technologies from other countries. The creation of biochemical stirred-tank leaching technologies for gold-containing arsenopyrite concentrates is the scientific basis of a process developed in Russia since 1964, in which development 8 of the largest Russian institutes participated. A comparison is carried out between the Russian technologies, e. g. BIONORD?, BIOS, technologies of institutes MISIS, IRGIREDMET, CNIGRI, INMI of the Russian Academy of Sciences with foreign technologies BIOX?, BacTech?, Mintek/BacTech?. Some Russian technologies differ slightly from foreign, others-considerably, in the biooxidation temperature, sequence of biooxidation, cyanide process and enrichments, methods of neutralization, phase division and metals extraction from biooxidation products, and the equipment used. For extraction of gold from refractory sulfidic concentrates in the Russian technologies, for example, the cyanide process is provided before bacterial leaching, bioleaching products are floated together with initial ore or enrichment products; concentrate biooxidation is performed in two stages at various temperatures and usage of different bacteria; the neutralization of biooxidation products is done without division into solid and liquid phases; flotation tails are applied for biopulp neutralization; part of the pulp is returned with a biomass from the first of consecutive bioreactors at the start of biooxidation; precious metals are concentrated from bioleaching product using the gravitational method and tails after gravitational enrichment are sent to cyanide process, etc. The analysis made shows big opportunities and a wide range of biochemical stirred-tank leaching technologies for different sulfidic concentrates.
