Chalcopyrite bioleaching by mesophilic microorganisms and surface passivation
Through breeding and domestication of excellent leaching bacteria, chalcopyrite bioleaching by mesophilic microorganisms was studied. The passivation phenomenon of chalcopyrite surface, the types of the passivation film formed, the chalcopyrite reactions and causes of passivation were also analyzed. The results of the study on chalcopyrite bioleaching by A. ferrooxidans, A. thiooxidans and mixed bacteria show that there was an obvious flocculent parcel layer made up of bacteria and jarosite when chalcopyrite was bioleached by A. ferrooxidans. During the bioleaching processes by A. thiooxidans and mixed bacteria, the passivation phenomena were more significant in the later stages of the process and the chalcopyrite surface had a higher content of sulfur. The thin layer of sulfur had a strong impediment on mineral dissolution. When pretreated by sulfate solution, the leaching effect of mixed bacteria was significantly inhibited. While pretreatment with ferrous sulfate solution caused, the leaching effect of mixed bacteria to be enhanced to some extent.
