Separation of pyrite and arsenopyrite by bioflotation
As their surface properties are very similar, the separation of pyrite and arsenopyrite is one of the difficult subjects in mineral processing. With the mixed acidophilic bacteria from Baishan as the biodepressor, this paper investigated the flotation behaviors of pyrite and arsenopyrite, which were conditioned with different concentrations of bacterial cells for different time, respectively. The recoveries of pyrite and arsenopyrite declined with the interaction time and cells concentration increased. On the basis of these results, the separation behaviors of the 1 :1 synthetic mixture of pyrite and arsenopyrite were also investigated. When the minerals were interacted with 5. 0 x 107 cells/mL bacterial cells for 5 min and further conditioning with 7. 6 mg/L PIPX and 2. 0 mg/L BEA frother, the recovery of pyrite in the floated fraction was 83. 55% , while that of arsenopyrite was 21. 89%. The results showed that, under the proper conditions, arsenopyrite and pyrite could be successfully separated by bioflotation.
