CurveNetSurf: Creating Surfaces from Curve Networks
In conceptual design of models, designers usually express their ideas in curve networks, without generating final 3D surfaces. As abstractions of 3D shapes, although curve networks characterized most key features, creating plausible surfaces from curve networks is not a trivial task, especially surfaces with expected sharp features. In this paper, besides using curves as positional constraints, we propose a method to utilize the structures and properties of curve networks to create mesh surfaces with controllable sharp features. Our algorithm is simple to implement and allows direct control of sharp features of the created surfaces. We demonstrated our method on curve networks of various models, the created surfaces are both visually plausible and faithfully follow the input curve networks.
