Photodegradation Investigation of Rice Straw Modified by Epichlorohydrin
Photodegradation experiments of natural straw, alkali boiled straw and epichlorohydrin modified straw were carried in QUV accelerated weathering tester. Weight loss rates and FTIR spectra were used to study photodegradation performances. After 576 h, total weight loss rate of modified straw was the same as that of natural straw, about 2.50%. While total weight loss rate of alkali boiled straw was only 1.71%. FTIR spectra indicated that lignin in natural straw decreased obviously after photodegradation. Lignin of natural straw was removed after pretreatment (alkali boiling). Ether bonds in straw increased after modification by epichlorhydrin. Methyl and methylene in modified straw decreased after photodegradation, it meant fatty compound was degraded.
