Removal of Cr (VI) from Aqueous Solution by Immobilized Tannin Extracted from Eucalyptus Leaves

Tannin, which was extracted from eucalyptus leaves, was immobilized with alginate sodium-calcium to form gel beads which were used as bio-adsorbent to remove Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. The influences of various factors, such as dosage of gel beads, pH, contact time, initial Cr(VI) concentration and coexistence ions on the sorption capacity were studied in batch equilibration technique. The results showed that almost 100% of Cr(Vl) was removed with the dosage of 400 gel beads and contacting time of 3 h at 55℃. The results indicate that the immobilized tannin used in this work is proved to be effective materials for the treatment of chromium-bearing aqueous solutions.
