The Green Recycling Process of Flame-Retarded High Impact Polystyrene Resin
In order to reduce the bad effect of the impurities on the mechanical performance and eliminate the pollution of toxic substances on the recycled product of flame-retarded high impact polystyrene(HIPS) resin, a new process of recycling HIPS resin from waste household appliance housing was developed in this paper, the nature d-limonene and low toxic npropanol were respectively selected as the solvent and precipitant of HIPS resin, the influences of HIPS concentration, precipitating temperature, stirring speed on the characteristic of HIPS precipitation particle were investigated. The experimental results showed that the particles size and shape of HIPS precipitation can meet the recycling process requirement when the HIPS concentration was about 15wt%, the volume ratio of n-propanol to HIPS solution was controlled to 3:1, and the precipitating operation was carried out under over 2000r/min of stirring speed and at 30℃. It was also found that near 90wt% of polybrominated diphenyl ethers existing in the flame-retarded HIPS resin was removed by this recycling process, and the recovery rate of polystyrene reached 97 wt %, so clean and high purity recycled HIPS resin was obtained.
