Acupuncture Education System with Technique-oriented Training-Development of a measurement system for operation force in quick sting-
Correct acupuncture therapy with little pain requires high techniques which are conventionally obtained by repeated training and long time experience. As one of our series studies for the development of a computer training system for acupuncture, this study concentrated our attention to the operation of quick sting in acupuncture. A system was constructed to measure quantitatively the force used in quick sting. Experiment of force measurement was done on both experts and trainees. A comparison was given, and characteristics of the experts and trainees are extracted. It was found that the experts stings are characterized by well defined speed and rhythm, and the trainees are hardly with stable speed and rhythm, and the sting takes longer time. With quantitative measurement of operation force in quick sting, the experiment data from all trainees can be standardized to give the tendency of increasing pushing time, and training index for ideal insertion speed and rhythm can be decided with the system.
