LES of Compressible Turbulent Channel Flows
Large eddy simulation (LES) of fully developed, compressible turbulent channel flows is performed in the present paper. The turbulent statistics agree well with those from other direct numerical simulation (DNS) results, indicating that the LES method established in the present paper is reliable. Through the analysis of the turbulent fluctuations, the Morkovins hypothesis is basically validated, and consequently the dominant compressibility effect is that due to mean property variations. When properly scaled, the turbulence statistics such as mean steamwise velocity, root-mean-square (RMS) velocity fluctuations are found to agree well with the incompressible DNS results.
