Synthesis of NbAl3 powder by sodiothermic reduction in molten salt
Intermetallic compound NbAl3 powder was synthesized by sodiothermic reduction in the eutectic molten salt systems at the relatively low temperature using NbCl5 and A1C13 solid powder as raw materials. The dependence of the crystalline structure and morphology of the obtained powder in LiCl-KCl-NaCl (referred to as LKN) system was investigated in present study. The as-prepared products were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the corresponding results indicated that intermetallic compound NbAl3 powder were successfully synthesized in molten salts.
