Micro-textures of tungsten coatings electrodeposited from Na2WO4-WO3-ZnO molten salts

By means of preferred grain orientations, studies on the micro-texture of tungsten coatings on molybdenum substrates electro-deposited from Na2WO4-WO3-ZnO molten salts were carried out by the aid of electron backing spectrum pattern (EBSP). The morphology of tungsten coating was presented by SEM and metallurgical observation. The reason for the morphology formation was explained by the surface energy difference between different low index planes. The preferred grain orientations of cold rolled molybdenum substrate are <110//RD (rolling direction), with normal directions extending from (111) to (001) and the maximum of (111) <110>. The texture of tungsten coating on molybdenum was (001) <110>. The equivalent 110 planes at an angle of 45° to the surface of the substrate formed the surface of tungsten coating due to the micro-scale coarse in the cross-section of tungsten coating.
