Co-deposition of Al-Zn alloys in ZnCl2-AlCl3-l-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (EMIMBr) ionic liquid
We dedicated to co-deposition of Al-Zn alloys from ZnCl2-AlCl3-l-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (EMIMBr) ionic liquid at room temperature. The properties of this ionic liquid were studied and the co-deposition mechanism of Al-Zn alloys was illustrated by voltammogram. The analysis of the deposits that was co-deposited by constant potential electrolysis method after 2 h was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). It appeared that Zn was rapidly solidified as the second phase in the alloys. The influences of the applied potential on the morphology of the deposit indicated that Al-Zn alloys obtained at -0.63 to -1.2 V were all uniform and the amount of Zn in the alloys decreased with increasing the overpotential.
