Silicon nanowires grown from electrochemical reduction silicon dioxide in molten salt CaCl2
Silicon nanowires were synthesized from nano-SiO2 powder under potentiostatic electrolysis. The morphology, structure and composition of the obtained silicon nanowires were investigated by means of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDS), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and Raman spectra. The results revealed that the diameter of silicon nanowires was distributed from 50 to 60 ran and the length was several micrometers. The formed nanowires consisted of silicon crystalline and amorphous oxide sheath.
