Physicochemical properties of Urea-ZnCl2 eutectic based ionic liquid

The Urea-ZnCl2 ionic liquids with different x(ZnCl2) (mole fraction of ZnCl2) were synthesized and their physicochemical properties were studied. The freezing point of Urea-ZnCl2 ionic liquid was measured as function of x(ZnCl2). The phase behaviour of UreaZnCl2 mixtures was obtained and indicated that the composition with the lowest freezing temperature occurred at an x(ZnCl2) of 0.25. The electric conductivity and viscosity of Urea-ZnCl2 ionic liquid were measured against composition and temperature. The conductivity of Urea-ZnCl2 ionic liquid increased with increasing mole fraction of ZnCl2 whenx(ZnCl2) <0.25. However, the effect of ZnCl2 mole fraction on the conductivity of Urea-ZnCl2 ionic liquid was negligible when x(ZnCl2)>0.25. For a certain ionic liquid composition, the conductivity increased but viscosity decreased with increase in temperature. The influence of x(ZnQ2) on the electrochemical properties was examined by cyclic voltammetry. The results showed that deposition potential and current density varied with varying mole fraction of ZnCl2, namely the deposition potential shifted negatively and the current decreased as x(ZnCl2) increased.
