Molecular Function Identification of EJLFY Gene from Loquat in Transgenic Tobacco Plant

LFY homologous genes play an important role in plant flower development. But little information is available on molecular mechanism and the function of EJLFY gene (LFY homologue) in perennial wood loquat. In this study, molecular and genotype identification of EJLFY was performed in transformed tobacco plants. The results from PCR showed there were four positive lines from 26 Kan-resistant tobacco plantlets. The incorporation of EJLFY gene was conformed by Southern blot and its expression was verified by RT-PCR and Northern blot analyses. Genotype observation displayed that one transgenic tobacco individual flowered 24 days earlier and taller than the wild plant, suggesting EJLFY in loquat is a functional homolog with tobacco NFL. This project is significant to explore molecular mechanism of EJLFY homologue and accelerate loquat breeding and fruit productivity.
