Effects of Grafting on Hormones Composition and Content in Bleeding Sap and Roots of Oriental Sweet Melon

The oriental sweet melon (Cucumis melo var. makuwa Makino) Yumeiren and the pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Ditch.) Shengzhenl were used to study the effects of grafting on hormones composition and content in the bleeding sap and roots. When Cucumis melo var. scion was grafted onto Cucurbita moschata Duch. rootstock, the content of bleeding sap in grafted plants was significantly higher than own-root plants during melon fruit development. From fruit setting to fruit enlarging stage, grafting significantly increased pH and EC value of bleeding sap, and decreased the concentrations of IAA, ABA, ZT and GA in bleeding sap, however, increased the contents of IAA, ZT and GA. For ABA, grafting only increased its content in fruit enlarging stage, and significantly decreased its content in ripe stage in bleeding sap. In the roots, grafting increased IAA content from fruit setting to fruit ripe stage, but significantly decreased ABA, ZT and GA contents.
