Resources Conservation Policy of American Federal Government during the Progressive Era

The American economy developed quickly in the late nineteenth century. At the same time, the developing economy put pressure on the natural environment, leading to widespread damage. In response, die federal government put forward some important principles and took measures to protect the environment and conserve the resources. One principle was that the federal government should promote the resources conservation in whole country and eliminate regionalism. Another principle was that the government should take action to conserve national resources for public benefit rather than big companies. The third principle was the idea of sustainable development. In practice, the federal government appointed the experts to manage the agencies, established the nature preserve to protect the forest, managed the water resources with multiple purposes and protected the mineral lands and established the national parks. The most important experience of the resources conservation policy of American federal government during the Progressive Era was that it eliminated the regionalism in conserving the natural resources. It focused on the public benefit rather than monopoly companies interest. Experts were appointed to improve the efficiency.
