Research on Stability of Cournot Market Dynamic Equilibrium Based on Emission Trading*

Recently, there are many studies about emission trading. However, much analysis ignored how emission trading impacts on product market structure. In this paper, we establish Cournot dynamic discrete system model under emission trading and analyze the dynamic equilibrium and its stability of Cournot market. Theoretical study and numerical simulation results show that Nash-equilibrium loses its stability and the system shows chaos status after double period bifurcation while parameters such as emission trade price, marginal pollution treatment cost and marginal production cost change. Moreover, when the relative speed of enterprises adjusting production is slower, enterprise profit will be more stable. When many parameters such as enterprises marginal production cost, marginal pollution treatment cost, pollution emission coefficient and emission trade price are bigger, the risk that enterprises take is bigger. When the room of enterprises production adjustment is smaller, the enterprises profit is relatively stable.
