Lean Government: Is Lean and Six Sigma too Heavy or just Right for Government?

A key to embedding continuous improvement in an organisation is developing peoples capability to learn to see process waste. This paper will introduce and extend Lean Thinking principles, methods and tools beyond a single Government agency. Lean Thinking is an evolving philosophy based on the focus of the elimination of process waste and non value adding activity. Six Sigma is a structured management process using statistical measures (fact based approach) of how well your process is satisfying your client. The author will share how he applied the lessons learnt from 119 organisations to the not for profit government sector. These insights has enabled him to fast track the deployment of Lean Thinking philosophy in the public sector. He will also share with you how he created the awareness and pull to transfer this knowledge to the wider Department. By working with both senior executives and the general workforce from the ground floor upwards, transformation using Lean Thinking principles, methods, tools and techniques is now possible.
