On Contemporary Chinas Household Registration System Impacting upon Chinas Modernization Process

In the world almost every country has Household Registration System. The original role of Household Registration System is to check in a countrys population. At the time of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC), the role of the system was similar with that of other countries, but then China was so poor that she had to put all resources together to build a new country, the Household Registration System was gradually endowed with special meanings combined with political, economic, and social functions. Hence the contemporary Chinas household registration system does not merely undertake the population management function; it involves every aspect of Chinas society. This paper will use literature method to explore the household registration system impacting on Chinas modernization process from four respects, namely, the allocation of education resources, labor mobility, capital flows and urbanization.
