Fruit Quality Evaluation of 6 Nanfeng Tangerine (Citrus reticulata Blanco. cv.Kinokuni) Using Principal Component Analysis and Systematic Cluster Analysis
In the present study. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Systematic Clustering Analysis (SCA) were employed to evaluate 6 selections of Nanfeng tangerine: small-fruit selection SS-28, QW3, 97Vand 97-2. large-fruit selection 97-1 and osmanthus-like calyx selection. PCA result indicated that the cumulative contribution of 5 principal components amount to near 100%, with the first four reached 93.05% although 10 fruit quality parameters were adopted to describe the fruit quality. Therefore, mathematical model was constructed based on the first 4 principal components to evaluate fruit quality of 6 Nanfeng selections and found that the integrative fruit quality hierarchy from the excellent to the inferior was in turn the small-fruit selection SS-28, the small-fruit selection QW, the large-fruit selection 97-1, the small-fruit selection 97-1 the small-fruit selection 97-2 and osmanthus-Hke calyx selection. On the other hand, used the eigenvectors of 4 principal components as variants, 10 fruit quality parameters could be classified into five groups by SCA. That is, the 10 fruit quality parameters could be simplified as edible rate, total soluble solid, titratable acid, fruit mass and peel thickness after cluster analysis. Interestingly, same quality hierarchy as mentioned above could be attained by PCA using the 5 simplified quality parameters. Taken together, the present results suggested that fruit quality might be evaluated and simplified by PCA and SCA.
