A Study for Protection of Cultural Resources of the Yeongdo Bridge
The Yeongdo Bridge, a bridge that connects Yeongdo Island to the mainland Busan has a long history and is known as the first bascule bridge in the East and a unique bascule bridge in Korea by allowing large vessels to pass by safely. The renovation issues of the Yeongdo Bridge arose in 1997 when Lotteshopping Co, Ltd. decided to build the Busan Lotte Worlds 107 floor building in front of the Yeongdo Bridge. The main purpose of this study is to find out the best solution to protect cultural values of the Yeongdo Bridge. The fallowings are the processes involved in protecting the cultural resources of the Yeongdo Bridge: (1) Classify protection types of cultural resources; (2) Search examples of (1); (3) Study for protection of cultural resources of the Yeongdo Bridge through classified protection types of cultural resources; (4) Make a plan for taking concrete shape of the Yeongdo Bridge; and (5) Consider efficient uses of the surrounding areas of the Yeongdo Bridge. In this study, the method of image modification is adapted to the Yeongdo Bridge. And the best solution is showed to protect cultural values of the Yeongdo Bridge that is transformed into new city development.
