Three Study Models of Urban Landscape Planning for Bangkok Sustainable Transportation Development
Traffic congestion is one of the most serious problems of Bangkok. Inappropriate and imbalanced transportation planning has brought the city into conflict between urban development and urban ecology. The idea of sustainable transportation-urban development has been seen as a long-term solution, hut with many difficulties and constraints to implement. This study aims to develop the idea through integrated network of transportation planning and urban landscape improvement to propose solutions in three scenarios commonly found in Bangkok. The study area was selected using a key index set from significant factors to support project implementation possibility. The method of study for each site was conducted differently according to its necessity, through site survey, questionnaires, interviews, along with collecting and analyzing related environment data. Three different approaches of integration models developed from traffic planning and urban landscape theories were proposed focusing on public benefit instead of individual convenience. The outcome clearly visualizes how different collaborative planning of transportation and urban landscape design improve the quality of urban life and environment. Moreover, it is possible to achieve even in limitation of old town contexts.
