The Childrens Play Behavior and Environmental Cognition in Beijing Urban Villages
In this study it interviews 87 children living in two different urban villages. Through the qualitative study, the data were collected primarily by means of participant observation and semi-structured interview to address the cognition between the relationships with childrens play spaces and behaviors and 392 times of childrens play spaces and play behaviors in the two empirical sites through observations. Then it found that childrens play spaces were no significant difference in different types of urban villages, but site status could affect childrens play opportunities and frequency. The fact that the childrens perceptions of play place may translate significantly into environmental attributes, sanitary and safety threats, but regardless of the family structure, and the time that they spend using it. The study highlights a better understanding of play space described by children and conducts data analysis of childrens behavior experience, which could contribute to the space determination and environmental creation.
