Assessment of Visual Quality Change after Post-Mining Planting on Mufu Mountain of Nanjing
Landscape architectures and ecologists are interested in evaluating landscape visual quality by utilizing tools and equations, especially in some reclaimed lands, such as post-mining sites. From 1998 until now, ten periods of planting projects have been implemented on a post-mining site: Mufu Mountain. However, the authors were interested in measuring qualitatively how much the landscape visual quality had changed. In this paper twenty photographic pairs taken between 1998 and 2010 were compared to assess the changes in visual quality on this site. The overall image of 2010 was measurably more aesthetically pleasing than the overall image of 1998. However, several typical mining landscape features still remain, such as bare rocks and cliffs.
