A Review Study of Landscape Metrics Support to Sustainable Development of Urban Green Spaces
Landscape metrics is a quantitative spatial measure to help sustainability assessment and sustainable planning. But its effective support to sustainable urban green space development is still under exploration. Besides, a preselection is necessary in practice to discard those redundant from the great mass of formulated landscape metrics. With a 3-step review study, this paper identified 14 primary themes of urban sustainability indicators besides green space, examined potential landscape metrics support to these themes in green space researches and scoped suitable metrics in research issue terms. Although this support is currently insufficient, a quantitative approach to sustainable development of urban green spaces can be perceived. To pursue more support, relative researches should improve spatial pattern interpretation, concern more about environmental functions of green spaces and broaden views to understand concerns in cross-disciplines.
