The Ornamental Peach and Its Application in Landscape
The ornamental peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch), as an ornamental plant, has been cultivated in China for thousand years. Compared with fruit peach, ornamental peach cultivars emphasize on ornamental values, which included various growth habit, colorful flower, and leaf. As a symbol of luck and happiness, the ornamental peach has been widely used in traditional gardens and urban landscape in China. In this paper, based on introduction of diverse ornamental values, major application forms of the ornamental peac have been illustrated. For example, ornamental peaches can be used as specimen trees in the themed garden, or as street trees, or as Bonsai. The great diversity of ornamental peach cultivars make it possible to utilize ornamental peach cultivars as an ornamental plant extensively in a variety of landscapes.
