Effect of Annealing Ti Foil on The Structural Properties of Anodic TiO2 Nanotube Arrays
Self-aligned highly ordered TiO2 nanotube arrays were fabricated by anodic oxidation of titanium foil. The effect of annealing Ti foils on the morphologies and the growth behaviors of TiO2 nanotube arrays was systematically investigated. We found that the thermal pre-treatment could eliminate the residual stress in the as-fabricated Ti foil and was, thus, beneficial in narrowing the diameter distribution and improving the alignment of TiO2 nanotube arrays. Besides, the growth rate of well-aligned TiO2 nanotube arrays with a honeycomb structure increased with increasing annealing temperature. The structural improvement of TiO2 nanotube arrays was a result of a homogeneous distribution of the electric field, resulting from the elimination the residual stress in as-fabricated Ti foil after annealing.
