Effect of Salt and Water Stress on Seed Germination of Dianthus Chinensis L.
Dianthus chinensis L. is a very ornamental plant and widely used in gardens. In order to determine its tolerant limits under salt stress and water stress, the seeds were treated in different NaCl and PEG6000 solutions, respectively. By analyzing the germination percentage, seedling growth and rate of free and bound water, it was found that the limits of germination in Dianthus chinensis L. were 150 mM for NaCI and -1.66 Mpa for PEG6000, respectively. NaCI had less of an effect than PEG on final germination percentage in Dianthus chinensis L. It was better way to identify the optimal limit of germination under stress condition on both germination percentage and seedling growth.
