Molecular Characterization and Expression of a cDNA Encoding a Single Myb-repeat Protein in Chimonanthus praecox

Chimonanthus praecox is an ornamental plant with great cold and drought tolerances. Based on the Chimonanthus praecox flower cDNA library construction and ESTs analysis, we obtained a CpMYBl protein gene, designated as CpMYBl, by sequencing randomly selected clones. The cDNA of CpMYBl is full length, and genomic DNA has no intron. CpMYBl contains a single conserved domain -SANT DOMAIN- in N terminal which shows that CpMYBl is a novel transcription factor belonging to MYB family from Chimonanthus praecox. The expression pattern of CpMYBl was analyzed by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR under some abiotic stresses, such as high temperature, low temperature, high salinity, drought and abscisic acid. The results showed that CpMYBl gene is expressed decreasingly, which proposed that CpMYBl is negatively correlated with abiotic stresses.
