Efficiency of Prior Harvest Treatments with Different Nutrient Solutions to Lower Nitrate Content in Lettuce
A greenhouse experiment was conducted to investigate the efficiencies of prior harvest treatments with different nutrient solution to lower nitrate content in lettuce. The results showed that no difference was found in SPAO values of lettuce leaves between different nutrient solution treatments. In addition, efficiencies of eight nutrient solutions in reducing nitrate content in lettuce were different Compared with full nutrient solution, N-free nutrient solution, 0.75 mmol/L K2SO4 and 5xlO5mmol/L ammonium molybdate decreased nitrate content in lettuce significantly. It is concluded that N deprivation, osmotic regulation anion K2SO4, and molybdate salt are effective in decreasing nitrate content in lettuce at prior harvest treatment. The results indicated that it was possible to produce low nitrate content lettuce in hydrponic cultivation with easier prior harvest treatment methods.
