Air-lift internal loop biofilm reactor for realized simultaneous nitrification and denitrification
Introduction Based on the technical process of simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND), the air-lift internal loop biofilm reactor (AILBR), a three-phrase-reactor which combines the traditional air-lift reactor and biofilm technology, was developed and used to make more efficient mixing and less sludge, therefore to meet nitrogen removal for wastewater with multiple and changeable compositions. However, the mechanism of reaction occurred inside biofilm was usually difficult to describe clearly, because the microstructure of biofilm was hard to measure for its complex structure. It is fortunate that microelectrode was used for researches on biofilm, and it is possible that microbial process can be described clearly.
