Copper recovery from aqueous solutions using the microbial electrolysis cell
1. introduction Copper is widely used in the electroplating industry as one of toxic heavy metals, which can result in various health problems. It is still worth developing new technology to treat the zinc wastewater. Such heavy metal ions as copper, nickel and so on are more liable to accept the electrons than proton in the aqueous solution and then could be removed through the reduction to the elemental or low valence metals. Therefore, microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) was used to remove and recover the copper ion from wastewaterin this study.
