Enhanced phenol biodegradability by means of photocatalysis

1. Introduction Phenol is one of simple phenolic organics, and easier to be biodegraded compared with other phenolic organics. But it has still strong inhibition to microorganism when phenol concentration is higher. Therefore, how to reduce its inhibition to microorganismand how to enhance its biodegradability become key points to improve efficiency of hydroxybenzene wastewater treatment. Phenol was used as target in this paper, and photocatalysis was used for pretreatment of phenol to investigate that phenol was assimilated as carbon source during denitrification, therefore to verify the feasibility of photocatalysis to enhance phenolic organics biodegradability.
