Evaluation of urine source-separation: Effects on existed wastewater treatment and values of nutrients recycle

1. Introduction Source-separation of urine from municipal wastewater has been considered as a sustainable alternative for the traditional sewer system. This probably has a more important strategic significance for China. First, much stricter regulations for emission control of N and P have been made due to aquatic eutrophication. Second, nutrients recycle from urine is highly significant for supplying such a huge population, especially when mineral nutrients are lacking and non-renewable. This study investigated the effects of urine sourceseparation on a typical wastewater treatment process in China. Also, values of nutrients recycle from urine were evaluated.
