Lignite-coke and its application in wastewater treatment
1 Introduction Activated carbon is perhaps the most widely used adsorbent for organic compounds, due to its high surface area and adsorption capacity. Currently, activated carbon originated from bituminous coal is most frequently used in water and wastewater treatment. This kind of activated carbon has a large surface area which is mostly micro porous. But, bituminous activated carbon is relatively expensive that also has a high regeneration/reactivation cost.
