The phytoplankton community succession during the restoration of an urban river in the Yangtze Plain
1 Backgroud Currently, many urban rivers in China were seriously polluted. In recent years, there were more and more practices in restoration of urban rivers, focusing on reducing pollutants and improving the physical and chemical environment. However, the change of aquatic ecosystem including the phytoplankton community succession during the restoration was lack of attention. Comparing to in lakes and in clean rivers, the structure of phytoplankton community in polluted urban rivers was still poorly understood, and the relationship between environmental factors and the succession pattern of phytoplankton community was even less reported. To instruct the ecological restoration, it is of significance to investigate the phytoplankton community succession in an urban river undergoing restoration.
