Preparation of a highly effective Ni-Fe bimetal by ball milling and its application in hydrodechlorination of 4-chlorophenol
Reductive dechlorination of chlorinated organic compounds (COC) by bimetallic materials has been widely used to degrade these pollutants. Normally, bimetals are prepared by chemical solution deposition (CSD) method. The second metal (catalyst) is deposited on the surface of the first metal by redox reaction. Excessive deposition of the second metal can lead to the complete covering of the first metal, unfavorable for the dechlorination. Moreover, the catalyst can easily flake off during the dissolution and erosion of the first metal, leading to sharp loss of dechlorination activity. Therefore, novel methods for the preparation of bimetals with high and stable dechlorination activity are needed urgently. This study focused on exploring a cost-effective Ni-Fe bimetal by ball milling (BM) for the dechlorination of model pollutant 4-CP in wastewater.
