Implementation of an Electronic Nose for Rapid Detection of Volatile Chlorinated Hvdrocarbons
1. Introduction Volatile chlorinated hydrocarbons (VCHs) such as trichloroethylene (TCE) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) are widely used as industrial solvents. These chemicals exert a variety of toxicity, and many are carcinogenic. Traditionally, VCHs are analyzed with gas chromatography (GC), which possesses high sensitivity and low detection limit. However, GC is unsuitable for on-site monitoring because of its bulky size, complex pre-treatment process and high technical requirement for operation.
