The Significance of Integrating Sequencing-based and Microarray-based Metagenomics Approaches
The rapid development of both sequencing-and microarray-based metagenomic technologies has provided the much-wanted solution for studying environmental microbial community, which is intractable until recently. However, both technologies have inherent technical limitations. In this article, we propose that they are complementary and therefore combination of them could solve the many issues that each technology is facing and generate reliable, comprehensive data for microbial ecology studies. Examples are discussed.
