Sensing nucleic acids and the analysis of their sequence, structure, and interactions with regulating factors play a critical role in basic biological/biomedical research. The knowledge imparted by these studies has had a profound influence on diverse areas such as disease diagnostics, development of new drugs, and environmental monitoring.
