Susceptibility of male and female medaka (Oryzias latipes) to 2,4,6-trichlorophenol induced micronuclei in peripheral erythrocytes
Introduction As humans are exposed to several health risk-related xenobiotics through many pathways, like the water and aquatic food, genetic assays on aquatic organisms can be important tools to evaluate the genotoxicity. 2,4,6-trichlorophenol is a widely detected toxicant in aquatic environment, which is classified as Group B2 compound (probable human carcinogen) by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. However, it is unkown about different genotoxic impacts of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol on male and female fishes. In order to investigate the gender-related effects on micronucleus induction of 2,4,6-TCP, we evaluate the genotoxicity by employing piscine micronucleus assay in peripheral erythrocytes of Japanese Medaka.
