Influence of symbiosis effect on the CO2 emission reduction in iron and steel industry

1 Introduction Iron and steel industry is one of the largest energy-consuming and energy-intensive industrial sectors in the world, which consumes 5% of the world total energy, possesses 3%-4% of greenhouse gas emissions, and accounts for 4%-5% of global CO2 emissions according to the report from International Energy Agency. China produced 36.3% of the world total crude steel in 2007, but emitted 51% of CO2 in world iron and steel industry according to the rough estimation from IISI and IEA.1 The studies on CO2 emission in iron and steel industry can be divided into three categories: qualitative analysis on CO2 emission and reduction measurement; quantitative analysis on CO2 emission, reduction measurement and reduction potential; metric analysis on the influence factor of CO2 emission. However, the quantitative analysis on the influence of symbiosis effect on the CO2 emission reduction in iron and steel industry is quite few.
