Numerical Investigation on Hypersonic Aroedynamics of Flat Plate Flying in Near Space

Attempt has been made to analyse aerodynamics of two-dimensional flat plate with the radius of 0.5mm, 51 mm length leading edge flying from continuum flow regime to near free molecule flow regime at angle of attack from 0° to 30° with DSMC approach. The purpose of this study is to investigate the aerodynamics of hypersonic vehicle in the near space flying at the altitude from 55km to 110km. The results show that the ratio of Lift-to-Drag decrease as free-stream Mach number and Knudsen number increase. It has been found that the ratio of Friction-to-Drag is over 60% at Mach 10, 0° angle of attack. With increasing of angle of attack, pressure drag increases, which lead to decreasing of the ratio of Friction-to-Drag. At different Knudsen numbers, the ratio of Friction-to-Drag is about 45%~70% at 10° angle of attack, and about 12%~50% at 30° angle of attack. Drag coefficient decreases near free molecule flow regime as Mach number increase at 0° angle of attack.
