Investigation of a Variable Geometry Sidewall Compression Inlet for Dual Mode Ramjet
In order to improve the performance of dual mode ramjet, a new variable geometry principle, installing a strut in the flow passage and regulating inlet constriction ratio by altering its height, for sidewall compression inlet is put forward. Then a variable geometry sidewall compression is designed according to the principle. After starting performance, target parameters, and flow field studies of the inlet with different strut heights, by wind tunnel test and numerical simulation, a variable geometry scheme is presented. Study shows that the variable geometry scheme could improve inlet performance target parameters at the same time, and he variable geometry inlet has a much better performance than fixed geometry inlet, which indicates that the new variable geometry method here could improve dual mode ramjet performance remarkably.
