Examining the Internationalization of Chinese Construction MNCs Using the Eclectic Paradigm
The merging progress of the international construction market has been undertaken rapidly. More and more Chinese construction enterprises are entering the process. This paper examines the internationalization degree of the Chinese construction Multi-national Corporations (MNCs) using the Eclectic Paradigm. It is found that “Technological and R&D capacity and “Firm’s reputation are regarded as the most important firm-specific ownership advantage while “Size and growth of the domestic construction market in China is ranked the highest country-specific advantage. Protection of the firms’ reputation, rather than use the market mechanism, is the strongest motivator to invest abroad directly. Also, the Chinese contractors consider that “Political and social stability in the host countries and “Availability and costs of local workers in the host countries are quite important for the project success. It is suggested that the Chinese construction MNCs should expand market, enlarge distribution range of business, and improve quality of construction and service as well as meeting various needs of customers in the host country in order to better consolidate local market position and promote future development.
