CARBON NANOSTRUCTURES AS ADSORBENTS FOR THE ISOLATION OF PROTEINS FROM BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES
Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were used as sorbent for the isolation of basic proteins from biological samples via solid-phase extraction. A MWCNTs micro-column incorporated into a flow system facilitates on-line selective sorption of basic proteins, i, e., hemoglobin and cytochrome c. The retained protein species were afterwards separated from each other by their sequential elution from the micro-column employing appropriate eluents. A 0. 025 mol/L phosphate buffer solution of pH 8. 0 well facilitates the collection of hemoglobin, while a 0. 5 mol/L NaCl solution ensures a quantitative recovery of the retained cytochrome c.
